Preserved in the Uffizi Palace in Florence, the antique marble was bought by Cardinal Ferdi-nand de Medici from the Roman Mignanel-li family before being sent to Palermo in 1800. The work was very successful in France thanks to the copy made by the Italian sculptor Giovanni Battista Foggini (1652-1725) for the Palace of Versailles at the end of the 18th century. Numerous reductions in marble or bronze multiplied throughout the 18th and 19th centuries in France and Italy.
