RUMI 1960
Serial number: 27066 CGF Collection + key The RUMI Fonderie Officine was founded in 1914 in northern Italy. He is a precision foundry. In 1948, he hired the engineer Pietro Vassena who brings in his boxes the plans of a projected engine for a cart. In 1949, a prototype of a 125 was released with the famous twin horizontal. The whole immediately achieves a success which encourages Rumi. In 1953, 21,600 copies left the factory this which places Rumi on the podium of Italian manufacturers. This will allow the brand a little madness: the legendary Formichino (little ant) from 1954. The mechanics are the same as before, except for a BV4. What the what sets it apart is its lightweight die-cast alloy frame. He is composed of two front and rear parts bolted to the engine. The area front consists of 2 half-shells encompassing the tank, the headlight and the steering column. Despite its marginal definition and high price, about 12,000 copies will be built until 1960. The Rumi will win a lot of competitions or classes like the Bol d'Or 1956, 1957 and 1958 More preoccupied with technical beauty and sporting prestige than with financial results, the company will close its doors in 1962. The Rumi Formichino with his mouth, his hissing flat twin furious, his performances made Vespa owners drool with envy, Lambretta and others because indeed, the song was worth the plumage. When Vespa was selling 700,000 scooters, Rumi was content to market 15,000 because it cost twice the price of a Vespa or Lambretta due to its high cost price. There were 3 versions, the Standard, the Sport and the Bol d'Or (due to the success of the brand during its participation in this competition). This Rumi has had a quality restoration by Philippe SABOULARD and Claude PILLOT for the mechanics.
