ARMORIAL BOX-BINDERS. XVIIth-XVIIIth centuries. - 2 bound folio volumes, which were later hollowed out and fitted out to serve as boxes. - A volume of the works of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, bound in brown granite calf, spine with ornamented nerves, partitioned and decorated with flowers and crowned monogram in the center of the boxes, triple gilt fillet framing the boards with gilt coat of arms in the center. EXAMPLE WITH THE ARMS AND MONOGRAM OF THE GREAT COLBERT (iron no. 4 of pl. 1296 of OHR for the coat of arms, iron of the figure absent from this work). - A volume of "Ordonnances" from 1747, bound in garnet morocco, spine ribbed with partitions and fleurons, framed in gilt lace with gilt coat of arms in the center. EXAMPLE WITH THE ARMS OF THE COUNT OF MAUREPAS, minister of Louis XV (iron no. 5 of OHR plate no. 2265). Worn bindings.
