AFTER CARLE VAN LOO (1705-1765) The Allegory... - Lot 149 - Osenat
AFTER CARLE VAN LOO (1705-1765) The Allegory of Music Oil on canvas 75 x 92 cm (restorations and minor damages) The original work is in the Fine Arts Museums in San Francisco. Van Loo was appointed First Painter to the King in 1762 and was favored by Madame de Pompadour, for whom he designed in 1753 a series of four door tops for the marquise's château at Bellevue illustrating the arts: painting, sculpture, architecture and music. With the use of childlike figures in his allegories, Van Loo renewed the genre and met with success.
