1976 MERCEDES-BENZ 450 SL R107 - Lot 139
1976 MERCEDES-BENZ 450 SL R107 Serial number 10704412030766 Type W107 US origin Original Hard Top French collector's registration Valid technical control less than 6 months old A symbol of a whole generation, the first Mercedes-Benz SL appeared in the 1950s and was aimed at a young clientele, far from the clichés conveyed by the majority of the population who drove the brand's large, statutory saloons at the time. Depending on the period, the SL model (for "Sport Leicht" or "Light Sport" in good French) will know its hours of glory in the 1960s and 1970s with the Pagode, a perfect blend of elegance and sportiness in a solid and reliable car as well as an all-weather convertible. By the end of the 1970s, the Mercedes-Benz SL had become more muscular and heavier. Gone was the round, almost feminine elegance of the Pagoda, replaced by taut lines and big, smooth, powerful V8s perfect for the American market, which had been seduced by this model from the start. This new generation became the mirror of social success where the driver's status was displayed in all letters on the rear trunk: "280", "300", "350", "380", "420", "450", "500" and the very exclusive "560". The model shown was delivered new to Dr Sakto Sasserville in Lewinston, Maine on October 19, 1976 as stated in the Owner's Service and Warranty Policy. Arrived in France in 2012, the car still has its "Owner's Emission Systems Manual" and the spare parts catalogue. A file of maintenance invoices worth over 5,000 euros accompanies the car. The test drive revealed no problems. The seller informs us that the 'brake' light has always been on, but that the car brakes normally, as we could see. However, this should be checked to ensure that the car can be driven safely. Equipped with a V8 engine developing over 200 horsepower, cruising in it is a real treat. With a brown exterior paint (the right door needs to be repainted), a light brown interior (a small tear on the driver's seat and a door panel) and a new dark bonnet, the configuration of this German car with an American accent is chic and sober. It is in good presentable condition and has less than 27 thousand miles on the odometer. With a little love and attention, you can make this convertible look like new again.
