IVAN KOZARIC Strange Project (Cutting of Mount Sljeme, Zagreb) Bronze One of the founding members of the Gorgona group, Ivan Kozaric is one of the most important Croatian artists of the second half of the 20th century. His work, mischievous, deliberately insolent and provocative, is made of performances, installations of Land art, developed in a dissident way in the context of communist Yugoslavia. The present work, considered one of Kozaric's most important sculptures, is the result of the impossible project of cutting up and appropriating Mount Sljeme, the highest peak of the Medvednica mountain in Zagreb, to make a Ready-Made in the manner of Duchamp. An impossible project, a romantic individualistic ideal that Kozaric realizes with the present sculpture, which transcribes the features of Mount Sljeme. Conceived in 1960, this work is recognized today as one of the manifest works of the Gorgona group.
