1973 PORSCHE 914 2L
Serial number 4732910312 Original European Spare parts catalogs provided French title Commercial agreements between Porsche and Volkswagen resulted in the creation of a little-known, but attractive and well-built model with great handling: the 914. A company owned 50-50 by the two brands was created and named VW-Porsche. This car was sold as a Porsche in the USA and a Volkswagen in Europe. The specifications imposed that the Porsche 914 should not present any visual filiation with the VW and Porsche productions. The study, entrusted to a design office specialized in contemporary furniture, gave a practically symmetrical car well in the air of the seventies, the mini skirt and Paco Rabane... The line of the 914 does not leave indifferent. Two versions are presented in 1969, with the 1 700 cm3 engine and the 6 cylinders engine of the 911-2 liters. Only the first one will meet the success, the 914-6 too expensive sold very badly. The gearbox has 5 gears and the first is shifted to have 4 and 5 face to face. In 1972, the 914/6 is replaced by the 914/2 with a 4-cylinder engine increased to 2.0 liters. With 100 HP the performances of this new model are like the 6 cylinders engine. What strikes most is the almost symmetrical aspect between the front and the rear, seen from the side. But undeniably, the whole thing breathes sport, with the ultra-low beltline, the wide tracks and the retractable headlights. Another pleasant surprise is the Targa hardtop that fits in the trunk whenever the urge to drive with the wind in your hair arises. However, the mid-engine mechanical architecture imposes a major restriction: the 914 is a strict two-seater... as a result, the 914 has two generous trunks of 120 and 160 liters. The interior is spacious, with the large Porsche meters (rev counter in the center). A real go-kart! The roof reaches 1m20 from the ground and the axis of vision is about 1m! The proposed car is part of the European versions, so it is announced as a Volkswagen on the registration card. This 914 2.0 was also cherished by its last owner, who owned it for over 30 years. With its beautiful light-yellow paint and dark grey interior, it represents the perfect equation between fun, sensation and simplicity.
