1973 STUTZ BLACKHAWK
Serial number 2K57Y2P113549 Mythical Designer Out of the ordinary car Very rare on the market Collector's French title The Stutz Blackhawk is a car of superlatives. Marketed from 1971 to 1987, it was created through the "Stutz Motor Car of America, Inc", a company created in August 68 by James O'Donnell, a New York banker, who was going to revive the "Stutz Motor Company", a brand that had already marketed luxury cars from 1911 to 1935, with a great record of achievements including a 2nd place in the 24 hours of Le Mans in 1928, several podiums in the Indy 500 and no less than 10 victories at Pikes Peak. The lines were drawn by Virgil Exner, a famous designer who worked for Dodge, Chrysler and Plymouth. He also designed a breathtaking Bugatti Type 101 convertible. The prototype was assembled by Ghia, who will oversee the bodywork. Under the hood is a 7.4-liter, 425-hp V8, borrowed from the Pontiac Grand Prix. Coupled with a GM TH400 automatic gearbox, the car, which weighed 2.3 tons, could reach 210 km/h after going from 0 to 100 in 8.4 seconds. But over the years of production, more than a dozen V8 engines of different displacements and origins were to pass under the hood. In the cabin, apart from the air vents, the speakers and the steering column, everything else is in Conolly leather, carpet, precious wood or gold plated! And we find the luxury, the finish and the style of the best Italian productions since the Blackhawk was assembled in Italy in Turin. Presented in January 1970 during a big gala at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, all the stars fought for the order forms and Elvis Presley managed to get the first one in preference to Frank Sinatra! The car was sold for the equivalent of $240,000. Other famous owners include Sammy Davis Jr, Evel Knievel, Robert Goulet, Larry Holmes, Willy Nelson, Dean Martin, Jerry Lewis, Lucille Ball, Wilson Pickett (1974), Barry White, Billy Joel, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Al Pacino, Frank Sinatra, Wayne Newton, and H.B. Halicki. Each car has a plate with the name of its first owner. The example we present is known to the Register Stutz Blachawk and was exhibited in 2018 at Retro Classic Cologne. It is in beautiful presentation condition with a 2018 paint job that sublimates Exner's taut design. Our test drive was successful, with generous V8 acceleration and no defects noted. Of note, the flat on the accelerator pedal will need to be installed. The interior upholstery was completely redone in 2018 and smells like leather. On the interior side, the gold plating having passed, it will be appropriate to redo it, or find another finish. At our also, the electrical system has been completely revised in 2018. Thanks to its atypical side, almost 600 Stutz Blackhawk were sold during its 16 years of career. A success that it owes to the notoriety of its customers. So treat yourself to a dive into the star system at the wheel of this Stutz, Elvis has only to behave well!
