1958 TRIUMPH TR3 A SPECIAL
Serial number TS21936O Custom bodywork In the same family since purchase Important follow-up file Unique in the world Original Hard-Top French title Since the origin of the automobile, owners have often wanted to distinguish themselves from others. As a symbol of wealth and important social status, the most illustrious coachbuilders redoubled their ingenuity and talent to offer completely different cars based on the same model. This race for exclusivity lasted for a large part of the inter-war period and saw the creation of true masterpieces that are today priceless. The arrival on the market of popular, simple and accessible cars stifled the trade of independent coachbuilders, many of whom did not survive. The story of this unique Triumph TR3 can be seen as an echo of this great period in a world where uniformity and mass production became the rule. The TR3 model, no need to present it to you anymore; the small light roadster of the mid 1950's is a success on all levels both in the aesthetics with a streamlined and notched body and in the mechanics with a real pleasure of driving, an amazing sportiness and a great feeling of freedom. Bought new in 1958 in England, this TR3 A is a wedding present for the couple B. who brought it back to France and registered it in April 1958. Its license plate remains today a guarantee of this clear and exceptional history for this model. The couple enjoyed this car for more than 10 years before Mr B. decided to change the aesthetic aspect of his car. A brand-new custom front end is put on the car with wrap-around lights and a modified engine hood, the doors are raised in the bodywork still leaving the original TR3 inspiration. The grille is redesigned with a more advanced upper lip, the windows are now fixed in the doors and perfectly fit the hood or the Hard-Top creating a useful and appreciated seal in rallying. Mechanically, the standard engine of the car has been little touched but will be made more reliable as time goes by thanks to: - Replacement of the dynamo by an alternator - Electric suction fan - Aluminum radiator - Electronic ignition - Unleaded cylinder head - Complete rebuilding of the S.U H4 carburetors Inherited in 1981, the son of the B. couple is today the last owner who undertook important restoration works; a complete file of photos and explanations retraces the history of this beautiful family adventure. Mr. B., a film maker and director, used his protégée as an object for advertising and filming. The beautiful patina shows us a car that is regularly used and driven with the same smile on his face as his father 60 years earlier.
