XIXth century FRENCH SCHOOL, follower of Eugène ISABEY Charles V and Francis I presenting themselves before Pope Paul III Oil on canvas 32,5 cm x 45 cm Bears the inscription "Isabey" on the backside of the frame, 12 ¹?/32 x 17 ²³/32 in. On June 18, 1838, in Nice, Francis I and Charles V concluded a ten-year truce after negotiations led by Pope Paul III. Each one keeps its conquests: France, Bugey, Bresse and a part of Piedmont, the Holy-Empire, Milan. This truce was followed by a meeting, without the presence of the pope, on July 14, 1538 in Aigues-Mortes where the sovereigns allied themselves to fight against the Turks and the heretics.
