5. BADE (Stephanie de Beauharnais, princess and future grand duchess of). A letter and a signed document addressed to the Secretary of State of the Imperial Family Michel-Louis-Étienne Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély. Paris, September 22, 1807. "Since the time of my marriage... the business of my uncles, Mrs de Lezay-Marnézia are stopped by difficulties resulting from the defect of liquidation of the dowry of my mother, Mde de Beauharnais [Adrienne de Lezay-Marnésia, wife of Claude de Beauharnais]. It has always been my intention to leave it to them...". - The coin is a power of attorney issued in the name of Regnaud de Saint-Jean d'Angély. Stéphanie de Bade (1789-1860) was the daughter of Claude de Beauharnais, brother of General Alexandre de Beauharnais who had been the first husband of Empress Joséphine. When, at the time of the constitution of the Confederation of the Rhine, Napoleon I had the Elector of Baden elevated to the rank of Grand Duke, he arranged a marriage between Stephanie of Beauharnais, whom he himself adopted at the time, and the heir prince of the Crown of Baden. The latter would ascend the throne in 1811. ATTACHED, 13 documents, 1806-1808, including one signed by Grand Duke Charles Frederick I of Baden with countersignature of the Grand Duchy's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg-Ludwig von Edelsheim (Karlsruhe, January 14, 1808).
