LOUIS XV. Signed document (secretary) countersigned... - Lot 4 - Osenat
LOUIS XV. Signed document (secretary) countersigned by Louis Phélypeaux as Minister of the Household of the King. Versailles, June 1, 1769. Letters of vetérance for a fourrier of his lodgings. 1 p. in-folio oblong, seal missing, some soiling, small restoration on the back. Letters of vetérance granted to Augustin Perceval, who was fourrier des logis du roi for more than thirty years, by which he orders "to make him enjoy, together with his widow during his viduité, the same honors and privileges in exemptions which he has cy-devant enjoyed or had to enjoy, and which are enjoyed by the veteran officers of our House...". Count de Saint-Florenin, then Duke de la Vrilliere (1770), Louis Phelipeaux (1705-1777) was Secretary of State from 1723, in succession to his father, and inspired in Louis XV a confidence that never wavered: he was in charge of the Secretary of State of the King's Household from 1725 to 1775, first in common with his cousin Maurepas, then in full after the latter's disgrace (1749). He sat on the King's Council as Minister of State from 1751, and on the disgrace of d'Argenson (1757) took over the administration of the city of Paris, which had been temporarily detached from the Secretariat of State of the King's household. He was thus in charge of the lettres de cachet and relations with the Protestants, acting against clandestine meetings but refusing to undertake the radical actions advocated by certain bishops. Above all, he pursued an active urban planning policy in Reims, Bordeaux and Paris, where he was responsible for the development of Place Louis XV (now Place de la Concorde).
