COLBERT (Jean-Baptiste). Letter signed as... - Lot 2 - Osenat
COLBERT (Jean-Baptiste). Letter signed as superintendent of the king's buildings, addressed to the intendant of the king's buildings in Fontainebleau, Nicolas Arnoul. S.l., 6 February 1664. 1 p. in-8, faintly foxed: "Monsieur Arnoul will take care to send me as soon as he can the measure of the TABLEAU QU'IL FAULT POUR L'AUTEL DE LA PARROISSE DE FONTAINEBLEAU [the church of St. Louis in the town of Fontainebleau, recently made a parish]. He will also make an estimate of the ARCADES FOR THE CHURCH OF THE MATHURINS. He will confer with them, but in such a way that it seems that they are reluctant to grant them what they wish, for fear that if they show that they want this project, it will lead them to make requests that would be too much of a burden. He will likewise take care to have as many cars as he can during the frost. I entrust myself entirely to him for the execution of the memorandum I left him, finding it good that, in the things I have not foreseen, he will give the orders he deems necessary for the good and the progress of all the works in Fontainebleau...". ONE OF THE TRUSTEES OF RICHELIEU AND COLBERT, NICOLAS ARNOUL was placed as commissioner of the Navy in Provence in 1641-1643, then in 1664 he administered the castle of Fontainebleau for the King's Buildings, and in 1665 he was appointed steward of the Galleys of Marseilles and then steward of the Levantine Navy in Toulon.
