MARIE LOUISE Round neck watch in gold with a cock. Enamelled gold case, with a lid decorated with the figure of Marie-Louise "ML" under a crown, surrounded by a laurel wreath, the whole decorated with pearls on a blue enamel background, surrounded by a series of pearls. Enamel dial with Arabic numerals. Square key at 2 o'clock. Reverse side decorated with a bee surrounded by a laurel wreath with a string of pearls. N°X343 - 61. Marked with a rooster's head (1809-1819) Diameter: 32 mm B.E. (Missing three small pearls in the figure). History: We find orders for small collar watches that could be ours: "Twenty-six small miscellaneous collar watches, in enamelled gold, with surrounds, numerals, superb emblems and accompanied by their chains and keys" (4/09/1811). Watches of this type were invoiced between 250 francs and 300 francs. Several watches of a similar model are known: - One is preserved in the castle of Fontainebleau, but is decorated with the figure "N" of the Emperor. It was offered in 1813 by the Empress to Mademoiselle Soufflot, daughter of a chambermaid of the King of Rome. When the Empire fell in 1814, Marie-Louise took the watch and gave it to Fanny Soufflot, who was the King of Rome's playmate in Vienna until October 1815. The case bears the number 31. - The other one sold in 2009 (Rouillac), decorated with the number in "bâtons" letters, like ours. It is numbered 47 and was offered to the famous Madame Minette, lingerie of the King of Rome. - One sold in 2014 (Bonham's), identical to the previous one, except that the enamels were opaque sky blue. It would have been given to Emilie de Pellepra. - One sold in 2016 (Osenat), with an interlaced figure on a green enamel background.
