*SILVER PLATE OF THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE OF THE EMPEROR NAPOLEON I BY BIENNAIS. Bordered by a frieze of palmettes and engraved on the wing with the imperial coat of arms, engraved on the back " N°30 3M 20 4 G ". (three marcs, two ounces, four grains) Diam : 27,5 cm. Net weight : 796,5 g. Hallmark of the goldsmiths' association, hallmark of an old man's head 85, hallmark Coq 1 (1798-1809), hallmark of Martin Guillaume BIENNAIS and Marie Joseph Gabriel GENU (cuts and wear). This piece comes from the Emperor's campaign silver, engraved with his figure. The destiny of this silverware is particularly historical as Anne Dion Tenenbaum notes in the article she dedicates to the "masterpieces of the goldsmith Biennais" in the book on the Waterloo Sedan "the pieces that remain today can only come from the set taken by Napoleon to St. Helena, or from the battle of Waterloo". Indeed, the silver pieces were reused or melted down during the Restoration and the Second Empire. Genu, a very talented silversmith, worked regularly in collaboration with Biennais. PROVENANCE : Former collection Miss TUSSAUD (England)
