He made equestrian techniques evolve, with the invention of the "single pillar" and the "double pillar". He died before being able to publish his work, the first complete edition "Le Manège royal" was published in 1623 and was followed by a second, enlarged edition by his friend and disciple Menou de Charnizay, under the title "Instruction du Roy en l'Exercice de Monter à Cheval" (1625).
