With a letter attributed to General Bertrand. Beautiful present binding by SCHAVYE, bookbinder to the King of the Belgians, in green morocco, decorated on the boards with stylized gilt fillets and flowers. First plate stamped " A SON EXCELLENCE LE MARECHAL COMTE RANDON - HOMMAGE RESPECTUEUX CH DE SAVOYE " Spine ribbed with title and friezes of foliage in gold. A.B.E. Second Empire period. Jacques César, count Randon (1795-1871). Veteran of the wars of the First Empire, wounded twice at Lutzen, he was aide-de-camp to his uncle General Marchand. He served with Bugeaud in Algeria (1841). He was appointed senator and in 1856 raised to the marshalate at the same time as Bosquet and Canrobert. He was minister of war (1851, 1859-1867).
