LISZT (Franz). Musical manuscript for voice and piano. [1874 - Lot 95
LISZT (Franz). Musical manuscript for voice and piano. [1874]. 8 systems of 3 staves covering 2 pp. in-folio on hand-ruled paper, numerous erasures and corrections, ink and pen with autograph additions of dynamic remarks in red pencil. Extract from his hymn Sainte Cécile. Legend (S5), in its arrangement for voice and piano. Franz Liszt had already worked in 1839 on this poem by his friend Delphine Gay (1804-1855), wife of Émile de Girardin - musical work not preserved. In 1874, at the Villa d'Este, he returned to it by composing for mezzo-soprano, choir and orchestra, his own interpretation of the hymn based on the Cantantibus antiphon sung on the feast day of Saint Cecilia. In 1876, with Kahnt in Leipzig, he published an arrangement of this piece for voice with piano, harmonium or harp accompaniment, French text and Italian and German translations. The second verse is a variant of the text printed in 1841 in Delphine de Girardin's Poésies complètes, and of the text of the hymn printed in 1876, where it reads "On lui donne des traits touchants",
