D'ANNUNZIO (Gabriele). Autograph letter signed [to Sarah Ber - Lot 63
D'ANNUNZIO (Gabriele). Autograph letter signed [to Sarah Bernhardt], in French. S.l., November 14, 1898. 4 pp. in-4, printed header of the villa Cap_x0002_poncino in Settignano near Florence. "Dear great friend, I have received here, at La Capponcina, from the delightful Georges Clairin [painter and great friend of Sarah Bernhardt], some news of you, O too distant, and I have also heard that you do not believe in the scenic vitality of SONGE D'UN SOIR D'AUTOMNE and that you are giving up performing it. This tragic poem has just been published in bookshops [in Italian], and I have not yet sent you the small volume, because I want to offer you a special copy that is not yet ready. Now, as this poem is already spoken of in France with some inaccuracies, I would like to make it known to the literate public by publishing it in a Parisian review. Please be so kind as to give the manuscript - the only one I have - to Mr. Louis Ganderax who will ask you for it. And a thousand thanks, dear friend, and a thousand pardons! Are you going to give THE SPRING DREAM? Is it true? Are you going to tour Italy? Is it true? Two unexpected joys. I kiss both your hands tenderly... "Gabriele d'Annunzio, in May 1897, had published Il Sogno d'un mattino di primavera in Rome, and, in 1899, had just published Il Sogno d'un tramonto d'autunno in Milan with Treves. Louis Ganderax's Revue de Paris published French translations of these two texts, Le Songe d'une matinée de printemps on 1 June 1897, and Le Songe d'un crépuscule d'automne on 15 February 1899.
