In-4, black morocco decorated with a mosaic and threaded decoration of listels and thistle motifs, gilt edges, covers preserved, edged case a little rubbed (E. Carayon). ORIGINAL EDITION printed at 220 numbered copies on Arches vellum. Preface by the art critic Roger Marx. ILLUSTRATION BY AUGUSTE LEPÈRE including 4 etchings outside the text, a woodcut and etching composition in black and bistre in the text, and 54 woodcuts in the text. Bound with the publisher's illustrated prospectus. - SÉVIGNÉ (Marie de Rabutin-Chantal, marquise de). Collection of letters [...] to Madame la comtesse de Grignan, her daughter. In Paris, by Nicolas Simart, 1734 (vol. I-IV) then by Rollin fils, 1737 (vol. V-VI). 6 volumes in-12, brown granite calf, spines with partitions and fleurons with garnet title-pieces, speckled edges, discreet disparities in the spine irons and speckling of the last two volumes, leather rubbed, errata leaf missing in vol. III, some leaves trimmed shorter (contemporary binding). LARGELY ORIGINAL EDITION. 2 copper engraved portrait-frontispieces.
