PICASSO (Pablo). - COCTEAU (Jean). Picasso. Paris, Librairie - Lot 24
PICASSO (Pablo). - COCTEAU (Jean). Picasso. Paris, Librairie Stock, chez Delamain, Boutelleau et Cie, 1923. In-16, 32 pp. paperback, small marginal tears on the cover with stamp crossed out on the first cover. FIRST EDITION. 16 photographic plates outside the text. Overall study with passages more particularly devoted to their collaboration in the theatre for Parade (1918) and Antigone (1922). VERY RARE: the work is absent from the bibliography of Talvart and Place, and the CCFr lists only 4 copies. AUTOGRAPHIC SENDER SIGNED BY PABLO PICASSO: "To Miss Truessel. Paris. m.cm. xxxiii. "This is probably a young girl close to the Bernese magistrate and lawyer Friedrich Trüssel, a great art collector and close friend of Paul Klee. COCTEAU AND PICASSO: A STRONG AND AMBIGUOUS RELATIONSHIP. The two men were very close from 1915 to 1926: Jean Cocteau witnessed the painter's wedding in 1918 with Guillaume Apollinaire and Max Jacob, published an Ode to Picasso, and carried out artistic projects with him for the theatre stage. But their friendship was not without distrust, and they drifted apart over a misunderstanding, before renewing their friendship in the early 1950s.
