Yellow gold coins. Set of nine twenty franc coins. 1856 20 franc coin. The reverse side is stamped with the words "20 francs", the date: 1856 A, within a wreath of laurel leaves. The coin also bears the words "French Empire". The obverse is struck with the head of Napoleon, in profile. He is not wearing a headdress, hence the name bare head, to differentiate him from the 20 franc coin, where he is wearing a laurel leaf crown, in profile. Engraved by Jean-Jacques Barre. This coin is one of the best known, more commonly known as the "Napoleon Gold" or "Louis d'Or". Diameter : 21 mm. Gross weight : 6.45 gr. 1878 and 1887 20 francs coin, in gold. The reverse side is stamped with the words "20 francs", the date, in a crown of oak leaves. The coin also presents the motto of the French Republic: "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity". The obverse is stamped with the Genius of the Republic, a famous work by the engraver Augustin Dupré. This figure is standing and engraving a blank table. On the left, a bundle of lictors, topped by a hand of justice, and a rooster on the right. This face is surmounted by the words "French Republic". Signature of the artist. Diameter : 21 mm.
