SEVRES Hard porcelain cup of the service... - Lot 214 - Osenat
SEVRES Hard porcelain cup of the service of the Gobelet du Roi with polychrome decoration of nets in blue and red and garlands of barbs and leaves of mirte. Marked : LL interlaced and crowned, letter-date FF for 1783, mark of the painter Taillandier. 18th century, 1783. H. 6,3 cm. Begun in 1782, the service known as the Gobelet du Roi was delivered to Versailles on 11 May 1783, with supplements added each year between 1784 and 1791. The decoration is named in the registers of the work of the painters and the enfournements kept in the archives of the Manufacture of Sèvres: garlands of barbels accompanied by the designation: Service du Roy (Arch. M.N.S.: Vj'2, f° 141 and VI'2, f° 53). It was addressed in successive deliveries to Jean-René-Christophe Roth, controller of the Gobelet du Roi. The service was intended for the table of the officers who were entitled to the second dining room, known as the 'new rooms'. The service probably followed the Court when it moved to the Tuileries in 1790. See David Peters, Sèvres Plates and Services of the 18th Century,2015, no. 83-2, pp. 679-681.
