HENRI RIVIERE (1864-1951) Work in the fields.... - Lot 46 - Osenat
HENRI RIVIERE (1864-1951) Work in the fields. 1906. Plate n°2 (of 4) of the Au Vent de Noroît series. Lithograph in 15 colours. Proof on ivory glazed wove vellum, without publisher's address, monogrammed and signed in the plate. Edition at 1000 copies at Verneau, Paris. Toudouze pp. 88 and 164. Gamet n°43. Full margins. 377 x 500 [504 x 652]. Very good condition. This print is very Japanese in its composition, as Gamet notes: "Reminiscences of Hiroshige are very likely. On the one hand, the treatment of delineated plots of land with alternating greens and browns evokes the 15th of the Fifty-three stations of Tokaido, "Hakone", where the colors of the rocks, green, brown and blue, are sliced in a similar manner. On the other hand, the fumes cut the composition as in the 37th view of the One Hundred Famous Places of Edo, "Hashiba's Bac and the Tile Ovens", as especially in "Evening Incandescence on Imado", from the series Famous Places of the Eastern Capital. "(Gamet, p. 39).
