MADEMOISELLE MARS Important set of five souvenirs presented in a fine grain red morocco box, with embossed and gilded brass handle and keyhole, decorated with flowers and blooms, folding handle, sheathed inside in marbled paper. 20,5 x 35,5 x Ht. 16 cm. It contains : A small red morocco ball-book, decorated with a poliglazed seedling of small nails. In the center, " Souvenir ", on the back, number " M " enriched with garlands of flowers and flowers. Steel clasp (the pencil is missing). The notebook containing notes on expenses and receipts, a deposit at the Caisse d'Epargne. 6.5 x 9 cm. B.E. (small accidents and wear and tear). -A bustier from a silk dress embroidered with multicoloured flowers, with short sleeves, closing with hooks. 24 x 84 cm. A matching piece of embroidered silk is attached. These are two fragments of the dress worn by Mademoiselle Mars in the role of d'Araminte in the false confidences of Marivaux - Green silk cushion or needle holder embroidered with gothic letters "MARS" over a pansy and foliage. 11,5 x 17,5 cm. B.E. - Small green velvet reticule embroidered with yellow and white silk thread of the number "HM" (Hyppolite - Mars?) under a crown. Polished steel clasp with two chains. 18.5 x 14.5 cm. A.B.E. - A gilded copper cross to be hung, embossed with foliage, pine basket... 11 x 8.5 cm. - Dagger or theatre dagger with stamped brass handle, decorated with ruby-style cabochons and three rows of pink white stones on the ferrule. Quadrangular blade rounded at the tip. Length : 20 cm. A.B.E. (Missing a stone.) Biography: Anne-Françoise-Hippolyte Boutet, nicknamed Mademoiselle Mars, is a French actress born in Paris on 9 February 1779 and died in the same city on 20 March 1847. She made her debut in 1794, at the Feydeau Theatre, and was admitted in 1799 to the Société des comédiensfrançais. She was Napoleon I's favourite actress. She had great success in the roles of ingénue and great coquette and put her talent at the service of romanticism. She created Doña Sol in Hernani (1830), and was Marie Dorval's rival in Victor Hugo's Angelo, tyrant of Padua (1835). Provenance: - Collection Jules Claretie, playwright.
