Travel kit box assigned to General JUNOT, octagonal in shape, plated with elm burr (baille and accidents), furnished with a plate, a miter, a lock entry and brass nets. The box has on the lid a lift due to the impact of a bullet that passed through it. The inside is covered in green and red morocco with a small gold iron decoration. Opened, it presents : -in the lid: the place for the mirror (missing) and a gusseted pocket for the banknotes. -In the lower part, on the circumference : Two round cut crystal flasks with silver lids, two steel boot pulls, two cylindrical ebony boxes, two cut crystal flasks with silver stoppers, a funnel and a compartment with a silver lid. -In the center, on three levels, starting from the bottom: *On the third level: A secret place to store the golden Napoleon. *At the 2nd level: A round brush with horn habit, silver lid. a toothbrush, a badger, a moustache brush (these four elements had the bristles cut), two inkwells with silver caps, a silver seal with turned ivory handle *The 3rd level, oval-shaped tray, in morocco, is designed to receive the bowl (which is missing). *On the 4th level: A sharpener (accident), a place for the comb (which is missing). *At the 5th level: A spinner, a descaling instrument, an ivory handle and token and a dance card. *At the 6th level: Two razors with ivory handles, a mirror hook, a hanging nail, a tweezers, an ear pick and two penknives (not original). Goldsmith's hallmarks "JB" of Doucet "la Joaillerie" in Paris, hallmark of title 950, hallmark of small guarantee Paris 1798-1809, hallmark of medium guarantee Paris 1809, hallmark of the association of goldsmiths. Missing is an eye rinse, the bowl, a descaling tool, two button hooks, the key. Inside the box is a handwritten note: "Field kit that belonged to General Junot, Duke of Abrantes, aide-de-camp of Napoleon I." The note is in the form of a note. He used it during the wars of Egypt and Lisbon which he fought in 1807. "Signature and stamp illegible. 28 x 19 x Ht. 12 cm. A.B.E. Consulate- Empire period. Biography: Jean Andoche Junot, Duke of Abrantes (1771-1813) Bonaparte's aide-de-camp, he took part in the Italian and Egyptian campaigns, then became ambassador to Lisbon (1804) and governor general of Parma and Piacenza (1806). As commander of the Portuguese army, he won the success of Abrantes, entered Lisbon (November 1807), but, defeated by the English, he had to surrender at Sintra (1808). He then fought in Spain (1810-1811), then became governor of Illyria (February 1813), but became mad and committed suicide.
