. Antoine MOUTONY, after The Emperor Napoleon I sitting, loo - Lot 83
. Antoine MOUTONY, after The Emperor Napoleon I sitting, looking at the maps. Subject in bronze patinated plaster (chips and lacks). 29 x 29 x 44 cm. A.B.E. Historical: Dominique Vivant Denon, Director of the Musée Central des Arts, entrusted him with the task at Moutony of modelling a bronze statuette of Napoleon at work, to match the bronze statuette of Emperor Frederick II on horseback, which was placed in his study in the Tuileries. The design of the statuette is probably due to Denon himself. Today we know of six examples from this group, one in gilded bronze which was in the Emperor Napoleon I's cabinet in the Tuileries (private collection) and five other examples in patinated bronze intended for imperial gifts. One of these examples is in the collections of Princess Napoleon in Prangins (Switzerland), another in the collections of the Duke of Bedford, one in the Château de Fontainebleau and finally one in the former collections of the Musée Napoléonien de Monaco.Ecole française du XIXe siècle.
