Large rectangular screen on a mahogany veneer stand with gold stars around its rim, featuring a cut (or chiselled) black velvet screen leaf. On a grey background, decorated with two horns of plenty from which flowers and fruit escape, framing an octagonal cartouche decorated with a monogram 'B', surmounting a medallion with the inscription 'He has given us peace'. The whole is decorated with foliage. In the lower part "Made in the presence of the first consul in Lyon on 26th nivose An X", resting on four legs and a spacer decorated with palmettes and flowers. Embroidery : 93 x 55 cm , Overall : 123 x 63 cm. A.B.E. Consulate period (wear and tear, some lacks in the foliage, stains and torn on 7 cm on the top left). Provenance: Master OSENAT, " L'Empire à Fontainebleau ", April 12, 2015, lot 275. Fabrique Dutillieu and Théolyère. Gabriel Dutillieu, born in 1757, was established as a fabric and silk manufacturer. In 1786, he joined forces with Jean Rostaing, François Debard and the draftsman Nicolas Theolyere and this screen is one of the copies executed during the passage of the 1st consul in Lyon on 26 Nivôse year 10 (16 January 1802). Presented on a loom at the Manufacture, 5 quai Saint Clerc, it corresponds to the copy kept at the Musée Historique des Tissus de Lyon under the number 23496. We also find a copy with the mention "In Lyon on January 16, 1802". History : On January 16, 1802, the First Consul visited the Manufacture with Josephine. Several panels like ours are woven before his eyes.
