OMEGA Speedmaster Mark II Case back number: 145.037. Circa 1970. Omega steel chronograph, tonneau case, signed black dial, luminescent painted baton hour markers, Arabic numerals, tachymeter scale printed under the glass. Date window at 3 o'clock, seconds counter at 9 o'clock, 24-hour indication at 12 o'clock to determine whether it is day or night and chronograph hour counter at 6 o'clock. Mechanical hand-wound movement Omega 861 reference 31310225. Screw-down caseback. Steel bracelet with signed folding clasp. The name of the Speedmaster comes from the tachometric bezel of the chronograph. The mark hesitated between chronomaster, flightmaster and speedmaster. The first version of the speedmaster appears in 1957. In 1962 NASA starts to test watches which can resist to extreme conditions. High temperature, low temperature, temperature cycles in vacuum, humidity, oxygen rich environment, shocks, linear acceleration, vibration. In 1965, the Speedmaster was chosen and passed all the tests. It is part of the official standard equipment for the Gemini human missions. Working, not overhauled. Diameter: 42 mm. Length: 22 cm.
