"Provenance: Descendants of the Dukes of Bassano. Octave Aubry, born on September 1, 1881 in Paris 4th and died on March 27, 1946 in Paris 6th, was a French historian and novelist. After his secondary education at the Lycée Voltaire and the Lycée Charlemagne in Paris, Octave Aubry attended the history classes of Albert Sorel, Albert Vandal and Anatole Leroy-Beaulieu before beginning a career in letters, especially historical novels. Along with Ernest Seillière, Jean Tharaud, René Grousset and Robert d'Harcourt, he was one of the five people elected to the Académie française on 14 February 1946 in the first group election of the year, which was intended to fill the many vacant places left by the Occupation. Edouard Herriot was elected the same year to succeed him. SOUVENIRS OF ST HELENA FLOWERS IN AN ENVELOPE ANNOTATED IN INK
