SAINTE-HELENE. Exceptional and unique ivory bristol case nicely and finely carved in relief on one side of the Emperor's tomb under the famous willow tree, on a background of landscapes and underneath, on both sides, of three characters of Asian type on a path, on the other side Longwood, trees and fences. The whole enriched with foliage, flowers and palms. 11 x 7 cm. Chinese work of the period. Provenance : Christie's sale of April 25, 2006, lot 1577. History: Work carried out by Chinese in service on the island of St. Helena who carved many small objects in ivory that we find in sales: boxes, chess sets, frames and various objects. They are among the last relics of the Emperor kept by Archambault.
