PIERRON. Autograph letter signed to the Grand Marshal Henri - Lot 195
PIERRON. Autograph letter signed to the Grand Marshal Henri-Gatien Bertrand. Paris, March 2, 1827. 2 pp. in-4, address on the back, small tear to the address leaf due to the opening and restored without damaging the text. "Having had the honor of presenting myself several times at your door without being able to obtain the honor of being admitted, I take the liberty of sending you the following little refutation. I have just learned from Mr. Marchand that Mr. DE MONTHOLON TOLD YOU THAT HE HAD PAID ME with notes on various houses. I WILL TAKE THE liberty of assuring MONSIEUR LE COMTE THAT THIS IS THE GREATEST FALSE, he has only given me a rather insignificant letter in which he tells me that he is expecting considerable income from London, and in which note he asks me for six days, on which he guarantees to pay me. I have therefore granted him these days. I hope that Monsieur le Comte will take into consideration the poor position in which the only one of the legatees of St. Helena who has not yet been paid finds himself... "Henri-Gatien Bertrand, Louis Marchand and Charles Tristan de Montholon were the executors of Napoleon I's will. CHEF D'OFFICE DE NAPOLEON IER A SAINTE-HELENE, Jean-Baptiste Alexandre Pierron (1790-1876) had started his service by being in charge of the food supplies and the preparation of desserts at the Tuileries. He had participated in several campaigns, had accompanied the Emperor to Elba as chef d'office, then had resumed his former duties during the Hundred Days. He agreed to accompany the Emperor to St Helena, and held the position of chef d'office until 1821, adding in 1818-1819 those of maître d'hôtel and chef. In 1840, he was part of the Return of the Ashes mission.
