THE EMPEROR NAPOLEON I. Large square handkerchief having belonged to the Emperor Napoleon I in white batiste embroidered in a corner with the "N" under crown and in the opposite corner of the crowned eagle on tuns. 60 x 60 cm. A.B.E. (two holes and some small holes). End of the First Empire period. Provenance: Sale Antoine ADER (Drouot), "Important historical souvenirs" 29 May 1996, lot 286. History: The Emperor was permanently accompanied, in addition to a snuffbox, his lorgnette, a tortoiseshell candy box and a handkerchief. Several models are known. Those with a moving N, a number corresponding to the beginning of the First Empire, which can be found on gold snuffboxes, and those with a capital N, like ours. They were supplied by Mademoiselles Lolive & Beuvry, the Emperor's lingères. Exhibitions : Australia, Melbourne July-August 1999, n°83. Paris, Place Vendôme, December 2003.
