1960 MOTO MORINI SETTEBELLO 175
Succession of Mr. X Type : 175 Settebello Engine n°15152 French car registration document In the middle of the fifties, people were racing without much means and the French national championship was reserved for so-called Sport machines. The less fortunate raced on Peugeot 176 GSs or tinkered with their 175 Gnome & Rhône or Ydral, and the vast majority of the field, like the competitors in the Junior formula in Italy, chose the Morini Settebello, which offered undeniable reliability, remarkable performance and ease of maintenance for half the price of a single ACT MV reserved for international category races. Alphonso Morini has given his motorcycles card names derived from the Latin game la scopa where there is no clover but cups, clubs, swords and coins (dinari). The Settebello is the silver 7, the rebello the silver king, the tresette (the three 7s of club, sword and silver) and the briscola a game derived from the scopa. These cards can be found on the side casings of some of these machines. The Settebello is, however, a very simple little motorcycle, a four-stroke, single-cylinder, single cradle interrupted frame. It is simply well made and superbly tuned. The latest factory versions were said to be close to 160 km/h, and were equipped with a megaphone exhaust system, while the standard, well-prepared Settebello was worth a nice 140 km/h, which wasn't bad enough. In 1963, after a brilliant nine-year career, the Settebello 175 disappeared from the catalog as a sport version, but the 175 continued to exist as a competition-customer version only with notable improvements, a lower frame, a different cylinder head, central brakes and a much more attractive price. The torch is taken up again in 1965 when a 250 Settebello is produced until 1969. We would like to thank Mr. François-Marie Dumas for his help with the general description of the model. We remind buyers that the entire collection is made up of motorcycle
