1956 BSA GOLDSTAR 500
Succession of Mr. X Type: B34 Gold Star Serial number: CB3240 Engine no. 3121228 French car registration document Same owner for 41 years The Goldie, as her fans called her, was one of the most famous supersportsmen of the post-war period in the late 1960s. But what is most remarkable is that this Gold Star was successfully put to every possible use. In its 350 and 500 cc versions, it was at the same time, at choice and with a few design details, a super sporty road bike, an excellent circuit machine, a top level enduro and cross country bike or even a trial bike possibly coupled with a sidecar! Never before has a motorcycle had such a wide range of possibilities and such a diverse range of achievements. Closely derived, as for its engine, from the pre-war B31 and 32 series, the Gold Star reappeared in 1947. Its rigid single-cradle frame acquired a sliding rear suspension in 1949 and the 500 distinguished itself that year in off-roading at the ISDT, while the 350 won its first victory in the Clubman category at the TT at an average speed of over 120 km/h. It will, thereafter, win all these English national races of the TT clubman from 1949 to 1956: without any trouble, 93% of the riders, at the start this last year, were at the handlebars of Gold Star! The final version of the Goldie, with double cradle frame, oscillating rear suspension and 200 mm front brake, appeared in 1953. A host of kits and options were available to get the best out of the Gold Star in the chosen conditions and it developed up to 41 bhp in the hands of the most skilful tuners. The model presented has a Lucas competition magneto and an Amal T5GP1 carburettor. We thank Mr François-Marie Dumas for his help concerning the general description of the model. We remind buyers that the entire collection is made up of motorcycles that have remained static in the collector's private museum for several years. A restart is therefore neces
