Rare litron cup and saucer in Sèvres porcelain of Empire per - Lot 234
Rare litron cup and saucer in Sèvres porcelain of Empire period. With a beautiful blue background, with a platinum decoration painted with a capillary frieze, unlike the usual use of gold. Very good condition. Sèvres imperial manufacture, 1811. Marks with a red stamp partly erased, the word "imperial" having been deliberately buchered as often for the services of the imperial palaces having been reused by Louis XVIII during the Restoration. H. 6.5 x D. 13.5 cm. Provenance : It seems that this uniquely decorated cup was delivered alone and was not part of a cabaret with several cups, as no lunch with a beautiful blue background and platinum decoration appears in inventories under the Empire. It is known that the Tuileries palace was equipped with several services with a beautiful blue background intended for the imperial table, which leads us to believe that it may have been part of a delivery for the Emperor to the Tuileries, such as there were almost every year, among disparate pieces with a beautiful blue background. History: Platinum is so much harder than he'matite, it was, until 1815, impossible to burnish, in order to make the me'tal shine. That's why the decoration of our cup is matt and quite thick.
