PARIS MANUFACTURE by Jean-Baptiste GILLE dit GILLES JEUNE (1837-1868) Pair of enamelled and polychromed biscuit bougeois, the fluted barrel surrounded by a snake resting on a tripod with claws, the circular base decorated with female profiles in medallions in an antique style. XIXth century Tall: 25 cm (a few resumptions to the decoration and restoration) NOTE: Gille dit Gille jeune (1798-1868) started as a seller of scrap porcelain in the street before renting a factory at 132 rue du Temple. At the 1855 Universal Exhibition, Gille was awarded the Légion d'Honneur and the Empress' supplier's patent. A visitor's guide advised to see the "beautiful exhibition of Gille and to admire a large wounded deer ...". A large medal also rewarded her work at the 1862 London Exhibition. He is, moreover, the only Parisian porcelain maker cited in the Report of the French Section for his bisque figures, remarkable for the perfection of his work and their dimensions. At the 1867 World's Fair in Paris, Gille e
