J. FORSTER and K. FRITSCH à WIEN LUNETTE ASTRONOMIQUE in bra - Lot 53
J. FORSTER and K. FRITSCH à WIEN LUNETTE ASTRONOMIQUE in brass resting on a mobile tripod Original 19th century case Height: 56 cm Length: 81 cm (missing) Note: Karl Fritsch (1855-1926) was an Austrian optician and instrument maker. Together with J. Forster, in 1876-77, he built a new type of astronomical mirror telescope in which the main and secondary mirrors were tilted against each other. He named the instrument, whose advantages were weaker diffraction, no obstruction and shorter overall length, initially the "Cassegrain Eccentric Telescope". In his own publication he named it the Brachy Telescope (later generally abbreviated to Brachyt) and built it with the help of an optical company in Vienna.
