EINSTEIN (Albert ). Autograph letter signed,... - Lot 193 - Osenat
EINSTEIN (Albert ). Autograph letter signed, in German, to Ernst Gabor Straus. S.l., April 15, 1950. 2 pp. in-folio. Long and beautiful scientific letter with several equations. " RESEARCH ON THE UNIFIED FIELD THEORY. After his publications on Special Relativity (1905) and General Relativity (1916), Albert Einstein conducted research on quantum physics before he began to work on the "generalization of the relativistic theory of gravitation" in the "unified field theory". Staying relatively outside the great scientific currents of his time, he devoted his last years to this vast undertaking which, reconciling the laws of gravity, electromagnetism, and quantum mechanics, was to explain the universe as a whole. Starting from the principle of the importance of the properties of invariance, he considered that physics should be thought of as geometry, and had come to a theory according to which the structure of space-time is the seat of gravitational interaction. However, he tried unsuccessfully to find out whether this structure could determine other interactions. Despite this failure, his work on unified field theory later found extensions in evolutionary cosmology and physical theories of symmetry. Moreover, the pioneering method he followed there was then fruitfully taken
