HUGO (Victor). Autograph letter signed [to Léon Richer]. S.l., "Tuesday November 7" [1871, after a red pencil note from another hand]. 2 pp. in-8. I add that ALL MY THEATRE IS TENDING TO THE DIGNIFICATION OF WOMEN. My advocacy for women is, you see, ancient and persevering. The balance between human rights and women's rights is one of the conditions for social stability. This balance will be achieved. You have therefore done well to place yourself under the protection of this supreme word: the Future. I am, Sir, with those who like you want PROGRESS, NOTHING but PROGRESS, ALL PROGRESS. I shake your hand... »
