CÉLINE (Louis-Ferdinand). Rigodon. Paris], Gallimard (Nrf ), 1969. In-8, (6 including the first 2 blanks)-v-(1)-314 [numbers 7 to 318]-(6 including the last blank) pp., paperback. ORIGINAL EDITION, ONE OF 43 numbered EXAMPLES OF HEAD on Dutch vellum. HALLUCINATED JOURNEY THROUGH BURNING GERMANY. Céline left Paris in June 1944 and entered Germany in search of Denmark, where, even before the war, he had kept some money safe. He managed to do so only in March 1945 after having experienced many tribulations in a ravaged country, in the company of his wife Lili, their cat Bébert, and the actor Le Vigan. On his return from Denmark, he drew from this experience a romantic trilogy: D'un Château l'autre (1957), Nord (1960), and Rigodon (1969) completed shortly before his death.
