Rectangular carved rectangular back relayed wooden sofa with a rosette interlacing frame set with a rope pattern that continues on the armrests, the armrest supports made of carved detached balusters adorned with acanthus leaves. The fluted connecting dice, the belt, slightly curved, has a pattern of water leaves and ribbon tori. It rests on fluted and roughened front feet and the three arched rear feet. Stamped I. B. Sene Louis XVI Period H : 92 cm L : 175 cm deep : 52 cm (small splinters, belt reinforcements, one hind foot to be consolidated, small restorations on the belt) This sofa is in the tradition of the seats of the 1780s, whose common denominator is the column or baluster uprights and the richness of the sculpted decoration. Jean-Baptiste Claude Sené (1748-1803) carpenter received master's degree in 1769, practises rue du Faubourg Saint Denis. When his first wife Catherine Nadal, carpenter's daughter, died in 1783, his workshop was very prosperous and he worked at that time with the master sculptor Valois. In the 1780s, he delivered for considerable sums the Menus Plaisirs, the Count of Kerry, the Countess of Provence, the Duchess of Harcourt.
