PAJOL (Pierre Claude). Autograph letter signed to Edme de La - Lot 64
PAJOL (Pierre Claude). Autograph letter signed to Edme de Lachasse de Vérigny. Vienne, June 10, 1809. 2 pp. in-4, inner margin of the bifeuillet crumpled with traces of humidity. Letter written during the Austrian campaign, to the father of his aide-de-camp: "We have known everything since the beginning of hostilities and have been so often at grips with Mrs. les Tudesques that for this time Vérigny is a little excusable for not having written to you as often as you wanted and as he had to. He continues to enjoy excellent health and has so far escaped all the unfortunate events of war. I AM PLEASED TO INFORM YOU THAT HYER TO THE REVIEW THAT HIS M[AJESTY] I[MPERIAL] AND ROYAL HAS KINDLY PASSED FROM MY TROOPS, TRUTHFULNESS HAS BEEN UNDERSTOOD IN THE FAVOURS WHICH THE EMPEROR HAS GRANTED THEM, AND THAT HE HAS APPOINTED HIM AT MY REQUEST LIEUTENANT-COLONEL. We do not know whether he will place him in a regiment or leave him with me. Have no fear, therefore, sir, for Mr. your son, who I hope will come out of this war as well as he came in... "Joseph de Lachasse de Vérigny would then serve in Spain where he would have the famous Captain Parquin under his command, but where he would be assassinated by a gendarme of the Valladolid garrison in 1812.
