DUMOURIEZ (Charles-François). 2 autograph letters signed. LETTERS OF EXILE. TO GENERAL WILLIAM HARCOURT. London, 1803. "I came too late to General Harcourt's house to thank him respectfully for the kindness he showed me, & for the gracious invitation you both had the indulgence to make me return my duties to your campaign. I desire infinitely to take advantage of your kindness & to deserve it by my eagerness. I await your orders in this regard... "William Harcourt had fought on the English side in 1793 in the Flanders campaign against the Armée du Nord led by Charles-François Dumouriez. -- TO GENERAL CHARLES STEVENSON. [England, after 1810]. "My good comrade, although I no longer write my letters myself, I cannot but express my gratitude, with my own hand, for the proof of friendship you give me, by announcing to me yourself, the first time you take up the pen, the dreadful accident which has endangered your life. I regret not being able to accompany Mrs. de St-Martin [her former aide-de-camp] and Ledieu [Louis-François-Joseph Ledieu, her first biographer] who are going to kiss you on my behalf... "With an autograph apostille signed by the Countess of Saint-Martin, who lived with Dumouriez during his last years.
