CONDÉ (Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, Prince of).... - Lot 23 - Osenat
CONDÉ (Louis-Joseph de Bourbon, Prince of). Autograph letter signed to a princess [probably the mother-in-law of Tsar Alexander I, the Princess of Baden Amelie of Hesse-Darmstadt]. Wansted (County Essex, England), November 20, 1802. 2 pp. 1/4 in-4. "One of my former off[icie]rs who was happy enough to make his court to Your Highness, at Munich (a happiness from which circumstances have so unfortunately distanced me) has just given me the most sensitive pleasure by mandating me that she has kindly wished to remember me, to speak to him of it in the most obliging terms, and to charge him with assuring me of the continuation of her interest. To all those whom I have taken from all the happy or unhappy events which have happened to her, I beg her to be persuaded that it is only the fear of compromising her that has prevented me from renewing to her, on a few occasions, the assurances of an attachment which her goodness, so noble and so full of grace, for the Body and for me, have so deeply engraved in my sensitive and grateful heart. I beg V.A. to do me the justice of preserving these same kindnesses, it will be one of the greatest consolations that I can feel in my misfortunes, and I dare to hope that it is sure that no circumstances will be able to alter the sincerity of the constant attachment that I owe to his person ... May I be permitted to pray to you to remind me of H.M.I. the Regnant Imperator of Russia, and to present him with the homage of my recognition of his goodness during my stay in Pertersburg, as well as my deep respect... »
