BROGLIE (Victor-François de). Piece signed... - Lot 16 - Osenat
BROGLIE (Victor-François de). Piece signed in his capacity as head of the brigade of Monsieur in the army of Princes. Düsseldorf, September 21, 1794. 1 p. in-folio printed with handwritten additions, red wax seal to his coat of arms. Certificate of good conduct worthy of a passport: "We Victor-François duc de Broglie [...] certify that Mr. Joseph le c[om]te de Lambertye, captain following the hunters [...] made the campaign in the company of the hunters of Hainault on horseback as a furrier in the army of the Princes uncles of the king and that he served there with honor & distinction.... "ORGANIZER AND A CHIEF OF THE ARMY OF PRINCES, THE VICTOR-FRENCH MARCHAL OF BROGLIA (1718-1804) was a veteran of the wars of the eighteenth century since the Polish Succession (late 1730s). He had been raised to the dignity of marshal in 1759, then invested with the office of governor of the three bishoprics (Metz, Toul and Verdun). Appointed Minister of War in July 1789, he decided a few days later to emigrate: he then organised the Army of Princes, of which he took command in 1792, then formed a regiment in the pay of England, and was finally appointed Field Marshal by the Russians.
