BUDDY. French school of the early 19th century.... - Lot 204 - Osenat
BUDDY. French school of the early 19th century. "Jean-Pierre ARTAUT in major's uniform of the 26th mounted chasseur regiment, wearing the star of chevalier of the Legion of Honour. Oil on canvas with coat of arms painted on the top left. Gilded wooden frame. 72 x 58 cm. A.B.E. Vers 1810 History: The Journal du Département de la Creuse, in its issue of 7 April 1810, contains the following notice: "M. Boudoux, painter of portraits in large and miniature, whose resemblance he guarantees. "Bibliography: An exceptional testimony is to be read on the career of Artaut in "Histoire des ariégeois" by H.Duclos (1883). The author met Artaud at the end of his life and heard him tell his life story. The testimony is long and rich in teachings on the character and the great uprightness of Knight Artaut: "We were very young when we had some conversations with this former cavalry officer. We learned that he had been early the friend of Joachim Murat, and that this intimacy persisted, through the dissimilar phases of their existence, until the time of the tragic death of Murat, shot on October 13, 1815, in an expedition in Calabria. Where did the camaraderie and friendship of our Colonel Artaud and Murat come from? From their confraternity without doubt, from their identity as cradles, one born at the foot of the rocky mountains of Cahors, the other at the base of the steep mountains of Saint-Gironnais, both sons of their works and their native energy, both with the attraction of the cavalry. »
