Giuseppe Bonzanigo's workshop. "Caroline Bonaparte Murat, Queen of Naples, 1782-1839. "Fine medallion representing Caroline, in profile bust, carved in ivory wax, presented on a midnight blue velvet background. Gilt bronze frame with curved glass. Reference "4214" from an inventory. Comes from the collections of the Prince and Princess Napoleon. Diam. medallion: 82 mm. Dimension figure: Ht 45 mm x 30 mm. B.E. 1st Empire period. (crack at the neck). Giuseppe-Maria Bonzanigo, an eminent sculptor from Turin worked in all formats, from ornamental sculpture to miniatures, the latter also in ivory. He worked notably for the residences of the kings of Sardinia, and during the Empire he was naturally protected by Prince Borghese, Napoleon's brother-in-law, Governor General of the Departments beyond the Alps in residence in Turin. During this period Bonzanigo stayed in Paris, where he exhibited at the Salon of 1808.
