Joseph-Joachim GUERNIER (1791-1848) French school of the 19th century. Emperor Napoleon I in coronation dress near the imperial throne. Large oil on canvas. Gilded wooden frame, decorated with swans, palmettes and trophies of arms. (Re-enclosed, small restorations and cracks). Size : 111 x 79 cm. With frame : 125 x 96 cm. B.E. Circa 1812 Provenance: Collection Jean-Marc AGOTANI Related works: -Joseph-Joachim Guernier (1791-1848) French school of the 19th century "Napoleon 1st, Emperor of the French in great vestment of the coronation.". Oil on canvas signed lower left and dated "1812". It is probably the modelo of our work. -The composition is that of Robert Lefèvre's painting, "Napoleon I in coronation costume", made in 1811 and kept at the Palace of Versailles. The drawing is in private hands. Biography: Joseph Joachim Guernier (1791-1848) Pupil of David, Guerin (he is registered in the workshop of this artist in 1811) and Saint. A talented painter and draughtsman, he exercised his art of living, leaving his son Charles Joseph more than four hundred paintings, studies and drawings which he has since donated to the City Museum. We can see of him, in the rooms of the Musée de Vire: Portrait en pied de louis XVIII, after Robert Lefebvre, Paysage allégorique, portrait of the artist and his wife.
