Ex-libris of the Thomas Philip Earl de Grey library 66 x 48 cm. A.B.E. (Freckles) Collection Jean-Marc AGOTANI Provenance : - Library Thomas Philip Earl de Grey. Biography : Thomas Philip de Grey, 2nd Earl of Grey, 3rd Baron Grantham and 6th Baron Lucas. It should be noted that the Earl of Grey was head of the Institute of British Architects of which Percier and Fontaine were honorary members and correspondents. History: The Book of the Coronation of Emperor Napoleon I, a monumental task undertaken by the Emperor Napoleon I to commemorate the ceremonies of his coronation, consists, in addition to the various minutes of the ceremony, of tables of the important stages of the ceremony as well as plates presenting the uniforms of the various dignitaries present. This task was assigned to Isabey (in charge of drawing the various figures), Percier (in charge of the frames and ornamentation) and Fontaine (in charge of the architecture). The participation of Isabey, who was already in charge of making the various costumes for the coronation, was by far the most important. The Book of the Sacrament was not published until the very end of the Empire (1814) and distributed only to a few dignitaries and members of the imperial family. The most famous copy was that of the Emperor, kept by his nephew Emperor Napoleon III and presented today at the Château de Fontainebleau. In addition to the engraved plates, it shows the drawings of them facing each other.
